Savoring Sycamore Brass Bookmark

The sycamore tree cloaks itself in combat fatigues, but the camouflage doesn’t fool the yellow-bellied sapsucker. He drills a pegboard girdle around a tree trunk to sip the sap that rises to the surface. For dessert, he feasts on insects attracted to the sap. Sycamore sap is but one of 227 flavors he favors.
